I hated registering. I thought it was going to be fun, but it was when my husband and I fought the most! We didn't agree on stuff and when we did find something we liked they wouldn't allow us to add it because it was low stock or about to be discontinued or something. I say register for a few things that you could easily take home with you and get it out of your system. You might find it's not all you dreamed about. Sorry to be a downer.

You could register for a few things that you really need/want and take stuff back with you to Australia every time you come here to visit. Or your friends and family can take stuff when they visit you.

Absolutely... You should go and make your "dream" registry... Who cares you're getting married and you should enjoy all that comes with it!

There is always money and gift cards to be given..

The Honeymoon fund is also a brilliant idea!

Thanks for all the tips and thoughts! I know some places do ship to Australia, but a) it's expensive and b) read THIS POST

I think a honeymoon fund is a good idea. Maybe I'll just go register for a FEW things. I do want some new bedding... I'm sure Andrew REALLY wants some new bedding too. :)

I totally understand. We didn't register because when we got married we were living in the UK, our weding was in Minnesota, and we knew we'd be moving to Austrlia in a few years. We just asked for 'no gifts' and pretty much everyone gave us money. But I totally agree, it still makes me feel a bit bummed that we didn't get to register for our wedding:( Feels like a missed right of passage!

America gets all the good swag! I saw this post at another blog of all this stuff this bride-to-be got at a bridal show in NY and it had tons of free samps in it and free bridal magazines, while here it seems that you still have to pay to get in to the shows, but their bags (if there are any) come filled mostly with brochures- boring! I'm with you on this one, I'm totally going to go to bridal shows and registry parties when I'm engaged for free food and alcohol and samples.

Just a thought....I know Bed, Bath and Beyond is not in Australia but I do know that you can return all your gifts and receive gift cards, so you can re-purchase. You'd have to have the gifts shipped to Australia BUT, if you receive gift cards as well as actual registry items you might be able to work in the cost of the shipping. Erin registered at Crate and Barrel and Bed, Bath and Beyond and received so many but we returned them in Tulsa and then she re-bought them the first week back in Boston. She had to rent a car to bring all the items home but it was fun and worth it. I hope you can work something out, the registry is really fun. You might call the stores you're interested in because I'm sure they've had similar issues arise. Good Luck!
