Elsja Down Under

My random life experiences as I follow my heart and travel to Australia for love…

First, to see what I was up to this weekend, see Jen’s Blog

Now, these kids are the biggest nerds, but… I do find them quite amusing and funny. They are starting their careers of Youtube fame early in life. Maybe one day they can become famous like the fabulous Chinese Boys. Thanks to Andrew for sharing this.

Proud to be an American? April 26, 2007

I came over to my sister’s last night and Preston wanted to show me his rocket he made for his class project. It was cool, had a water bottle base with paper wrapped around it. A styrofoam cone for the point at the top and it was nicely decorated.

I was looking at it thinking it was really nice and I saw this:

Hmm… interesting…. this looks oddly like the AUSTRALIAN flag:

He evidently drew it from memory from 6 months ago when they learned about different continents.

How very patriotic of him… if he lived in Australia :)

In his defense, he did have American flags on there as well, but i thought it was a cute little tribute to Andrew, even though Preston said he just drew it because he thought it “was pretty.”

Seriously…

Speed limits of 40-45 are SLOW ENOUGH ALREADY.

Do people REALLY need to drive 35???

And IF they do… do they really have to drive RIGHT NEXT TO the other dumbasses who also feel some idiodic need to drive 35 as well???

These people will drive me to insanity one day.

One Day I’ll Be a Pampered Chef! April 22, 2007

Filed under: Happy Happy Day, Shopping — elsja @ 10:04 pm

What a fabulous weekend in the wonderful world of “Elsja buying things she won’t use for a year.” You see, awhile back I went to a pampered chef party hosted by Jackie Rohlfing and there was so much stuff I wanted. She recommended that I host a party so that I could maybe get some discounts on the things I wanted to buy.

Great idea!

So this weekend, I had not only 1, but 2 parties! I was very happy that my friends and family could make it out to join the fun. I really didnt expect everyone to buy stuff. I’ve never been to one of these parties where there weren’t at least 1 or 2 people who just said “thanks but no thanks” but EVERY single person got something!! I was amazed!

So you know what this means for me? DISCOUNTS!! and FREE STUFF!!! So exciting. Here is a list of the stuff I got this weekend:

For 50% off I got:

all three.jpg

1. All new pots and pans that I heard from 3-4 people were REALLY good. I just really can’t afford the All Clad $1,000 set. And since I’m not a fancy chef yet, I don’t think I need pans worth $1,000.

2. A cutlery set: including chef, bread, santoku, utility and paring knives.

3. A cool scraper/spatula set. Made of silicone so they wont scratch my nice new pans :)

And now for the list of stuff I got ENTIRLY for free!!!

1. Honing tool for the knives

2. Quick stir pitcher

3. Rectangular 9 x 13 stone baking dish

4. Oval medium sized stone baking dish

5. Scaper cleaning brush for my new stoneware

6. Hold and Slice (this will be so useful)

7. Mini spatula

8. Measure, Mix and Pour (my sister has this and I love it)

9. A trifle bowl

10. All purpose spreader

11. Mini tart shaper

12. 2 bottles of the cinnamon spice blend

13. Microfiber dish towels (didn’t even ask for these, they just threw them in, yay!)

14. Baker’s roller

ALL THAT FOR FREE!!! It was a good weekend for shopping for the kitchen that I don’t have yet. But I will. One day. Hopefully in a few months :)

So Glad April 17, 2007

Filed under: Kiddyroos — elsja @ 9:51 am

I’m not a teenager anymore.

Friday I was at Pick Up Stix eating lunch and at the table nearby were 3 teenagers. One of the girls was crying off and on and talking about a guy but I couldnt really make out what she was saying. Then her louder friend joined them and at this point I figured out that the crying girl broke up with her boyfriend that day and she was really sad about it. She kept telling her guy friend not to do “something” because she still cared about him… who knows what he wanted to do?

Anyways, the other girl said the following “just dont call him AT ALL. I didnt call “nick” after we broke up and finally after 3 weeks he called me and then we got back together”

Ugh Gag. I just sometimes want to go over and tell these teens that they SHOULD break up with everyone they date now because 95% of the time they aren’t going to marry them anyways and ONE DAY they will just break up or be miserable anyways. They just don’t get it though.

It’s so sad to look at these kids and realize I was once where they are…. thinking that it was the end of the world if me and my high school boyfriends fought, etc. Thinking I knew everything and my mom just didn’t know what she was talking about.

Saturday I was cleaning out a closet and I found tons of old keepsake stuff, including a diary from high school (that I don’t remember writing AT ALL). It seemed like every time I wrote- it was how I was sad about my ex Ethan, how I wished he would love me, blah blah blah.  I wrote about a gym dance I went to just to see a boy I liked and then he ignored me the whole time and I was so sad. So pathetic.

I don’t proclaim to know it all know, and I know you learn and grow in relationships for your entire life, but seriously- teenagers are SO stupid. Being a therapist for awhile and wanting to work with kids/teens- I used to always want to “tell them like it is.”  I think, “if I could just explain to them how things are, maybe they will listen because I’m not that old…” But then I realized this is always what my mom was trying to do- trying to tell me that “one day” I would be different or “one day” I would understand what she was talking about and realize she wasn’t wrong all the time. Then I realize that they really could care less what I think and any advice I have is just looked upon like “mom” advice. They still have to make their own stupid mistakes OVER and OVER and OVER. The saddest part is, some people NEVER grow out of this and they still make these lame choices and mistakes when they are 40!

I’m just SO glad I don’t have to deal with that teenage drama anymore!

Yes I’m Copying Jen April 9, 2007

Filed under: Gibber Jabber — elsja @ 11:34 pm

Here is my version of my loves and (don’t) loves… along with some other thoughts of the week.

1. I love Easter candy, specifically pastel candy corn

2. I love my boyfriend

3. I don’t love my week-long headache from hell. Yes, it literally has lasted a week off and on… mostly on. The other day it was like I had schizophrenia and I couldnt turn the voices off because everything seemed so loud that I just couldnt find a peacful quite spot in my house. Even my peaceful sound machine that sounds like a relaxing babbling brook was driving me nuts when it was on the lowest volume possible. I finally gave in and decided I have migraines even though I don’t see spots and get blurry eyes and crap.

4. I don’t love that Andrew lives over 7000 miles away.

5. I don’t love that he is stressed about finding a new job because the one he has doesn’t give him enough hours/income.

6. I love banana pudding that my mom made yesterday. Too bad everyone ate it all. I really just love most food in general. Most bad food. I’m hungry.

7. I love that I don’t have to wake up at 7 or even 8 every day to go to work.

8. I don’t love my age spots that are becoming so noticable that Jen saw me from across the room thought I had a bruise on my face. I’m not THAT old yet! :(

And here are a few other thoughts for the week:

I don’t understand the people who come to they gym with the following:

1. CD players. Ipods (and other MP3 players) have been out for a million years. Get with the times people.

2. Spandex pants and full butt underwear. If you want to wear the full butt, wear loose pants… if you want to wear spandex- invest in a g-string. SOOO many women do this and I just don’t get it!

3. Pink bras under white shirts. You know that you will be sweating like a pig later and you will look like a trashy sorority wet t-shirt contestant.

4. Regular clothes. If you are going to make the effort to work out, at least make an effort to change out of your jeans, work boots and regular t-shirt. You know after you sweat on the treadmill you wont be showering and changing into something else. Gross.

Back Home April 3, 2007

Filed under: Good Times, Travels & Adventures — elsja @ 10:06 pm

Well I got home yesterday and there’s nothing exciting about that. Nothing exciting to blog about in regards to my 12 1/2 hour plane ride or my day of depression and exhaustion and jet lag.

I did have one thing I wanted to share while I was still in Sydney, but I was just too lazy to write about it. Friday morning (thursday afternoon for you peeps) I got up at 2:45am to go to work with Andrew (I know, that’s dedication right?) He had to fly out to Wagga Wagga (what a horrific, yet funny name for a town) to pick up and deliver some freight.

Well, not only am I happy that I got to spend the day with my boyfriend, I am also happy at the experience I had on the flight out. It was much smoother than my last flying experience with him!!! Seeing as we were in the air by about 3:45 am, it was still pitch black out. We flew over some pretty rural areas (with no city lights) so we had a great view of the sky and the stars.

Andrew turned off all the lights in the plane for a few minutes and we just had an awesome view of the sky at 8,000 feet.

This is what it looked like, no joke:

milkyway1.jpg

Ok maybe that photo is zoomed in a little more than we could see… BUT, it looked a lot like that!! We could actually SEE the milky way… the blurry white cluster of stars (so different to the like 19 stars we can see in the entire sky here in OC). We could see the Southern Cross too and I also saw a shooting star. Now, I’ve seen some cool stars in my day while camping or while I was in the mountains or hawaii, but this was so much better. I could stare at the starry sky forever. Eventually though, morning had to come… so I got to see the night sky turn into a sunrise.

It was worth getting up early for!!
