Music Makes all the Difference May 31, 2007

Filed under: Health and Yummy Stuff, Tunes — elsja @ 11:03 pm

So I finally put some new music on my ipod… not tons, but about 5-6 songs that I could add to my gymjam playlist. Seriously, I was so bored at the gym every day listening to the same 40 songs over and over… well really it ended up being the same 10 songs over and over because I was ALREADY sick of the 30 others on that list. I would go to the gym, but my motivation to actually work hard had kinda blown out the window because all they play on the stupid TVs are ESPN and CNN. World news and sports that I have no interest in (including the SPELLING BEE they played on ESPN yesterday) do not get me excited to sweat.

Anyways, it’s amazing what just one little song can do! Yes I know I added 5 or 6- but really, theres just one that pumps me up :) It’s my new (old) favorite song. I say new (old) because I’ve liked the song forever, but I’ve never actually had it on my ipod until now. It’s the Underworld song from Trainspotting (born slippy). That is seriously the best song ever to get me in the mood to work out. I just play it over and over and I can run forever. Well… not forever. Hopefully it will be awhile before I get sick of that song too.

It’s a good thing I have my newfound motivation to work harder at the gym, especially since this is what we spent the day doing on Monday:

Now, I don’t even really like cake all that much, let alone chocolate cake. I know, I’m weird. But, these little adorable bite size pieces of heaven are just delicious! I think it’s that yummy glaze stuff that appeals to me. You can just pop a cute little flower in your mouth… and then another… so quick, so easy… so dangerous!!!

So we spent a lot of the day Monday making these (that’s my pink one up there) and then I’ve spent a lot of the rest of the week eating them. And one box of cake mix makes about 23487234 of these things! I wish they would disappear into someone else’s belly before I eat them all!!

Well it’s official… so now I can finally blog about it :)

Andrew got offered a job with Qantaslink (Eastern Airlines). Real passengers, real flight attendants, real airport security, real cheap buddy pass tickets for me :) (eventually).

I’m so proud that he got a good flying job! I knew he could do it, I had no doubts.

The Ground is Shaking May 23, 2007

Filed under: I Hate People Sometimes, Sad, Mad, Bad — elsja @ 11:43 pm

I think I am the only one who felt it. I thought I was losing it. I was peeing and I felt a little shaking… enough to make me stop peeing real quickly and stand in the door. As I was standing in the door I felt a little swaying… but not enough to make me believe it was an earthquake. I started to just think I was delusional and nutso. Maybe i was just dizzy or something. Well, I wasn’t crazy afterall… I came downstairs and sure enough there was a 3.9 about an hour away from here and it happened at the exact time that I felt it. I called my mom, she said she didnt feel it but they announced it on the news.

I’m so glad I’m not going crazy… but I do wonder how on earth I felt such a small earthquake when no one in this whole house did. And nothing was even shaking afterwards!

Now it’s off to bed. I am really looking forward to listening to the jackhammers at 11:40pm this lovely evening. They like to do construction on the toll road RIGHT behind my sisters house at God-awful hours of the night. They shine big giant lights into our windows and drill continuously into the concrete. I just don’t get it though… of the ENTIRE 133 toll road, why do all the repairs need to occur DIRECTLY right behind the back yard.

I think I’ll go throw water balloons at them. Or turn the hose on full blast and spray it over the wall. Maybe then they will leave… just until 4 am when they come back and wake me up. Yes, this is what happens. They are here from 11:30-12:00… then they leave and I get happy, only to be woken up again at 4 when they decide to grace me with their presence (and jackhammers, drills, and banging) yet again.

This should be a fabulous night. Earthquakes and jackhammers. Maybe them drilling into the ground is what caused the freaking earthquake. Ugh I hate midnight construction.

Whatever Shall I do? May 21, 2007

All my shows are over. :( boohoo… Last week and this week I am saying goodbye to the following shows…

Whatever shall I do? What am I going to record all week? What am I going to watch marathons of on the days where I’m home bored with nothing to do? I really hope some new wonderful shows start up… but I just haven’t seen any previews for anything good. How sad is this?

And I must say, I was pretty disappointed with all the season finales I’ve seen so far (Grey’s Anatomy, DH, Heroes). I really hope Lost is good to make up for the last few let downs. They didn’t even leave me anxious for the new season to start. There aren’t really any cliffhangers that I need to know the answers to. I guess DH probably had the best of the 3…

Oh well, now on to the summer of lame TV.

Saddest Thing Ever May 9, 2007

I can’t even imagine how horrible this would be.

Crash on I-5 in Mission Viejo takes family’s three kids

Big-rig that slammed into their minivan couldn’t stop in time.

The Orange County Registersad.jpg

MISSION VIEJO – Lori Coble beamed as she posed for the camera with her husband and their three small children. Katie was still a baby, perched on Lori’s hip. Kyle and Emma – in matching white shirts, jeans and flip-flops – grinned as they crowded on their dad Chris’ lap.

“Kyle, Katie and Emma – the crazy monkeys” as the Ladera Ranch family’s Web site proclaimed. The kids grew up so fast.

The dream was abruptly shattered about 1:10 p.m. Friday when a big-rig slammed into the back of the family’s 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan on the southbound Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway north of Oso Parkway.

The three Coble kids were in the back of the minivan, strapped into car seats and booster seats. Lori was driving. Grandmother Cynthia Maestri was in the front passenger seat.

Two-year-old Katie and 5-year-old Kyle were rushed to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. Katie died just before 2 p.m. Four-year-old Emma died minutes later at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, California Highway Patrol officer Katrina Lundgren said.

All lanes of the freeway were shut down while a LifeFlight helicopter landed on the freeway for about five minutes to pick up the critically injured Maestri. She was airlifted to Western Medical Center. Lori was rushed by paramedics to the same hospital with critical injuries. Both have since been taken to Mission Hospital and their conditions upgraded on Saturday to fair/stable, according to Paula Serios, vice president of marketing at the hospital.

At Mission, Kyle was rushed into surgery. Doctors did everything they could. He died at 8:52 p.m.

Friday afternoon traffic had slowed to a crawl near Oso Parkway. The silver Chrysler minivan was stopped in the slow lane as the cars headed south stacked up.

The black-and-white big-rig came up behind the Chrysler between 55 and 60 mph, according to what the driver later told California Highway Patrol investigators. Packed with electronics, the big-rig didn’t stop and slammed into the back of the minivan, driving through the backseat of the Chrysler where the children were sitting.

The semi drove through the back of the minivan, crushing it and pushing it into a Chevy Tahoe that was stopped ahead, CHP officer Katrina Lundgren said.

Andy Tran, 32, who installs blinds for a living in Santa Ana, grabbed his tools and tried to get the children out of the car. Glass was everywhere. Kyle was bleeding. The car seats were mangled.

There was little Tran and others could do. He pulled out a blue blanket and laid it down – a touch of comfort for the victims.

“I’ve seen a lot of accidents, but this is the worst one I’ve ever seen,” Tran said. “Just seeing the kids. I can’t forget it.”

A firefighter chaplain in full gear hugged bystanders and offered comfort. Firefighters were teary-eyed. The van’s vanity license plates “MEMOMMY” crumpled under the wreckage.

The Cobles recorded their lives on their family Web site. A 2001 wedding. Trips to the Wild Animal Park. Birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Kyle’s soccer pictures. Katie made her debut on the site even before she was born – with ultrasounds. Memories lovingly collected, archived and organized.

Neighbors and friends paused in front of the family’s Ladera Ranch home Friday night. A woman and two young girls lit candles and prayed. A small stuffed tiger sat next to flowers. An American flag hung from the Cobles’ two-story house.

The driver of the Tahoe, Jack H. Sweet, 48, of Mission Viejo, was taken to Mission with minor injuries.

In the nearly 3-mile stretch between Crown Valley Parkway and La Paz Road, there have been 2,281 accidents and five fatalities in the past 10 years, according to CHP records.

CHP investigators spent hours questioning the driver, Jorge Miguel Romero, 37, of Apple Valley, who said he saw the traffic backed up, applied the brakes but couldn’t stop in time.

Fontana-based leasing company Aurora TRL, which owns the truck, did not return calls for comment.

Cheated May 3, 2007

I like how they kept trying to advertise “2 hour greys anatomy” when really its just their attempt at shoving a new show down your throat, whether you want to watch it or not. But they make sure to throw in bits of Grey’s Anatomy here and there- JUST so you have to keep watching. Because you don’t know what you will miss if you don’t.

I’ve been cheated. And this new Addison spin off looks lame.

Just Drug the Children

Filed under: Kiddyroos — elsja @ 3:06 pm

Jen You will appreciate this one!

LasT night Andrew and I were talking about how one day (far, far, far in the future) it will be very difficult to take kids on an overnight 14.5 hour flight. I said it would be very difficult for someone to take a sleeping pill on the flight if they had kids because if the kids woke up… then the person would be screwed and drugged up.

This was the conversation that followed:

Andrew says:

sleeping pills

Elsja says:

i seriously think i’ll drug my children with cold medicine on flights

Elsja says:

just a little to make them sleepy

Andrew says:

just give them to the kids

Andrew says:

half a sleeping pill each

Elsja says:

no way

Andrew says:

cop that u little bastards

Elsja says:

just cold medicine

Andrew says:

stick em under the seat

Elsja says:

haha

Elsja says:

aww

Andrew says:

everything about kids is hassle

Andrew says:

what do people have them for again?

I like his plan of sticking the kids under the seat. Great idea! ooo I can’t wait.
