I completely skipped the 4th of July this year. I left LA on the 3rd and didn’t arrive in Sydney until July 5th. The 4th just did not exist for me. Do you want to know how I missed the 4th? Apart from crossing the International Dateline over the pacific, I think it also had something to do with the fact that I was traveling in a space ship.

I swear, the silver space pod looking seats in the WONDERFUL new A380 business class were so cool and high tech that it didn’t even feel like I was on an airplane. There was a massager on the chair, and the head rest was super cushy and cozy and check out how much room is between each seat!! The TVs were ginormous touch screens, the lights in the morning come on slowly- getting brighter and brighter over time – just like the sun. This is definitely a nice way to travel!

This is what I looked like for about 8 of the 14.5 hours of flying:

I am a tad bit sad that I missed out on the 4th. I know my family had a great time at my sister’s house and it would have been nice to enjoy one last day of summer, but I needed to get back here for a variety of reasons. The freezing winter weather was NOT one of my reasons, but unfortunately it seems to be something I will be dealing with for a few more months. It’s amazing how quickly things seem normal. Just Friday I was  home  in the US and it felt 100% normal. It didn’t feel foreign or weird, it felt just like home. But then I arrive back in Sydney and walk into our apartment and suddenly this feels just like home as well. I feel so fortunate that I can travel back to CA so often. I think living abroad would be MUCH harder if I knew I wouldn’t see my family for months or even years! Here are just a few of my favorite pictures from my trip  the rest of them can be found HERE.050

  1. Wow…how lucky are you to get to fly business? So jealous. We, however, will be slogging it coach style with 2 kids to Oz for Christmas. Yeah, not relaxing at all. But, it’s always worth it once we get there.

  2. It seems so many of your experiences mirror mine at the moment. I’ve also just returned from a trip “home” and have experienced that weird feeling of having two “homes”! When I got back to the Middle East it felt so familiar too. I’d worried I was going to feel unsettled, but in fact that wasn’t the case at all.

I also got to fly Biz there and back, and from the sounds of it, the standard is similar! I just LOVE the massage feature! 🙂

And the whole airports and saying goodbye all the time thing strikes a chord, too. Whatever I do at the moment, I’m always saying goodbye to someone…
