Things I’ve learned about TV in Australia… and other topics of interest.

1. Cable didn’t even arrive in Australia until 1995. Yes… 1995! Andrew said that in high school people used to go to the US and come back and tell tales of how there were 80 channels. No one could believe it or understand it. Weird. I guess Australia just lags in the TV department.

2. There is only one cable company. This means- no competition and no selection of satelite or digital blah blah. Not that I really care that much- but it does mean that prices are high (what’s new?)

3. Shows here have different names. For instance, “The Girls Next Door” is called “The Girls of the Playboy Mansion”

4. On the topic of the Girls Next Door I have two words… NO CENSORSHIP! Lots of cussing and boob action all over the place!

5. Can someone please tell me when the hell LOST is going to start? Did it already?? I just have no idea what is going on in the TV world in the US. And is Heroes still on? That was on here and then it just stopped. And thank God for itunes because I can download Grey’s Anatomy. I really cant wait around for lagging Australia to put that on the air.

  1. actually, thanks to the writer’s strike going on right now, you haven’t missed much.

lost hasnt started yet. i think its supposed to start in february, but it will probably only be half a season because of the strike.

heroes ended its season early last week. and it pretty much sucked. they went from operating at a snail’s pace to cramming everything into one last episode. it was pretty ridiculous.

all of the sitcoms have been out of episodes for a few weeks already and most of the dramas are basically out as of this week. all thats gonna be left is reality shows. im sure this makes jen very happy.

oh, but american gladiators is coming back!!!

  2. So yeah I was going to tell you about the whole strike thing but Ben there told the whole story ๐Ÿ™‚ Good on ya Ben ๐Ÿ™‚ I just got back from the states about two weeks ago and well not much has changed! however I really miss it, but, at the same time, coming home (yes I did say home)back to my hubby and two boys is priceless ๐Ÿ™‚ As far as some advice for your trip careful on the movies and shows you watch over in the states because you will be bored for quite some time when you get back as it will be all repeats here! My advice is to go find a show that you never started to watch over in the states an then start watching by renting them through blockbuster or something ie. my hubby and I never got involved with the show 24, and well since we have run out of the things to watch over here since they are all repeats, we started it up the other night and now we are hooked! LOL Anyway, have a great trip and make sure you bring back all the good treats you miss!!! Blessings you ๐Ÿ™‚
