So what exactly have I been doing since I last posted in April of 2011? Let’s catch up shall we?

Although I really liked my job at the social media marketing agency, I was spending a lot of time working on web development projects and I knew that’s not where I wanted my career to take me. An opportunity came knocking through a friend and in June of last year I was offered a new job working in market research. I absolutely love it. Working in qualitative research (online live chats, focus groups, one on one interviews) allows me to connect with people and even use some of my psych skills that had gone a bit stagnant since 2007. I work with amazing people, have an awesome boss who is a fantastic teacher and one of the best parts is that the office is right in Circular Quay so my 20 minute ferry commute on the harbour is beautiful!

We had our 2nd annual Christmas party and it was a big hit! 🙂 It all started with my 101 in 1001 project which inspired me to start that tradition. And since we hosted our party as a “be a star chef” fundraiser, I also raised over $1000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. I did A LOT of cooking (and eating) and loved every minute of it.

We went skydiving… twice!! The first time Andrew and I went for Valentines day. You know, the whole “I love you so let’s jump out of a plane” thing- romantic right? The second time we took our 60+ year old dads! It was definitely one of the best things I’ve done! And to think, just back in 2007 I didn’t think I’d have the guts to do it.

In January, I won tickets to spend the night at the Opera House. We were the first group of adults to ever have this privilege since the landmark opened in 1973. It was a pretty great opportunity, even if the floor “beds”  (more like yoga mats) were the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept on. Waking up to views of the bridge and the harbour was pretty amazing.

In April two girlfriends and I went to Bali. We found cheap tickets through an airline running a new route and so we jumped on the offer. In hindsight, the extra 9 (yes… an extra NINE) hours it took us to fly through Kuala Lumpur get to Bali probably negated the excitement of the cheap tickets but in the end we had an awesome time.

A few weeks ago I went back to California for the first time in nearly a year. A lot seemed to have changed. Was it just that I had been gone for so long or were things actually different? And did I mention the babies? Holy crap my friends had a lot of babies. Aside from baby overload, I had a wonderful time catching up with family and friends. Oh, and the shopping, boy did I shop. I sometimes forget how much I love finding clothes that cost under $20.

And finally, today I started the diet from hell. Over the last few years I’ve had a lot of medical issues (mostly stomach related) and recently I’ve had lots of tests done and have spent hundreds of dollars on doctors. After numerous dead ends I decided that I wanted to try an elimination diet to try and find any dietary culprits for my symptoms. Well, today is Day 1 of a long and challenging diet that will hopefully set me straight and help me to start feeling better. Get ready for “hunger for food with taste” induced bitch sessions in days and weeks ahead.

  1. I’m glad you are back to blogging! I need to start mine up again. I am curious to know more about your diet. I too have had a lot of stomach issues over the last year and half. I have tried gluten free and dairy free, both to no avail. Hope your diet helps your tummy troubles!

  2. LOVE reading your blog along with seeing your pictures.

You can blog about what you get to eat each day…I am curious. What did you eat today?
Let us hear how you react to variaous additions.. (just not TMI regarding a bad reaction). ha ha. This will be interesting for everyone to experience this adventure with you.

    1. Thanks mom. Tomorrow I’ll post about what I ate today. Needless to say I would rather eat shrimp than the salad and sludgy juice I have to consume today. You know that’s saying a lot!

  3. My friend did an elimination diet a few months ago and said it’s the best thing she’s ever done. I seem to get really awful stomach problems for about 6 months out of the year and then the other 6 months I’m fine…it’s bizarre. When I go to the doctor’s, they make me feel like I’m a hysterical female so no answers for me yet, either. Good luck with the diet! We’re doing super low carb between now and then wedding and that sucks big time, but I’m sure not as much as your elimination one.

Oh and on a completely unrelated note, let me know if you or your company want/need any unpaid interns as that’s the new job I am in- bringing US uni students out for a semester of study abroad and about 95% of them also do internships while they are here. The next group comes in at the very end of August and I feel like we always have about 20 students looking for marketing roles!

    1. That’s great to hear! I’m hoping I feel the same way. i’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m not sure if we’ll need interns but I’m guessing yes. 🙂 Would any of them be interested in market research? I can talk to my MD.
